Puncture Guard Protection
These tyres are designed with a puncture protection belt of a special rubber compound between the tread and carcass (varying from 1 mm to 5 mm). This additional layer of rubber compound provides protection against tube punctures resulting in a longer-lasting tyre.

EPI/TPI (Carcass)
The density of the carcass fabric is expressed in EPI (Ends per inch) or TPI (Threads per inch). In principal, a higher EPI relates to a better quality tyre. A higher EPI tyre has low rolling resistance and good riding properties. At the same time puncture protection increases because a carcass with high thread density is difficult to puncture. Coarse fabric used in lower EPI carcass is more cut-resistant and makes the tyre more robust. The choice of fabric correlates to the purpose of use.For EPI indication, the number of strands of all carcass layers is added together. Typically, Hartex nylon tyres are made to a 3/60 or 3/78 EPI rating with 3 layers of 20 EPI or 26 EPI underneath the tread. This is most suitable for developing markets although these same tyres can be made with various higher EPI ratings as well depending on a particular market’s needs.
